We are excitedly preparing for the release of our latest product, the AvaSpec-Mini-NIR! During February and March, we have been sharing some application examples for this instrument leading up to its official release.

Today’s topic: near-infrared spectroscopy in moisture content measurements

Moisture and humidity (or lack thereof) is a vital factor in the preservation of certain materials over an extended time period. Moisture content is measured and monitored at various stages in the processing and storage of these materials, which include pharmaceutical products, hardwood and even some food items.

Due to the non-invasive and non-destructive nature of this testing methodology, diffuse reflectance NIR spectroscopy is often used to measure moisture content in a variety of food items, including wheat, barley, corn, soy and rice.

With our NIR spectrometer-based systems, the strong overtone absorption bands for water at 1450 and sometimes 1940 nm can be analyzed quickly and accurately.

The AvaSpec-Mini-NIR

The AvaSpec-Mini-NIR is a compact, versatile near-infrared spectrometer that can be used in many different applications but is especially well suited for moisture content measurements.
